Databse migration from Ora 7.3 to Ora 8

Hello Every one,

We are soon migratting from Oracle 7.3 to Oracle 8.0.4 (On NT 4.0).

I have to do on Production system itself. I tried last month on a test environment (in ½ day) but now I do not have any test environment.

1. I have installed Oracle 8 on the Server on which Oracle 7.3 is already there.
2. Then using database migration assistant I tried to migrate the instances from Oracle 7.3 to Oracle 8.0 but it did not work properly. I verified Oracle 8 manuals and getting started. Its only two steps saying that follow the steps and click finish.
3. I exported Oracle 7.3 data and imported into Oracle 8. It is working fine. The problem is I have 5 instances , meaning to say I have to create 5 instances, corresponding tablespaces, RBS, Users etc in Oracle 8 and import the data which is laborious but safe method.
4. In the manual it says that to

Migrate : the database you should have at least 7.1.3.3.6 release database and SQL net ver 2.0 ( My db is 7.3 and SQL net 2.0)

Upgrade : the database you should have at least 8.0.3.0.0 release database

5. There is line mode also but it says for beginners best to use Migration assistant.

Based on above points I cannot upgrade only I have to migrate.

Can any one give me step by step procedure how can I do this task and explain me what's Happening in migration. (Is 7.3 database is still there when you migrate to 8)
