Very good point Art, and if the original poster is on Sun, then they may be looking at Veritas Volume manager, and only the very latest version of that (which may not be released yet) does the right one.

One of the big systems I'm TDA for at present is striped and mirrored, and as you pointed out, if one disc goes done, the entire mirror set for the stripe is deemed to be invalid - argh !

Sorry - if anyone asks, I can't remember the critical version number for Veritas Volume Manager.
