I am a new Oracle user and trying to set up an Oracle datbase and instance.

I have a setup script for a classroom and there are directions that tell me the following:

-Replace all <SID> values with your oracle_SID name.
-Replace all USER_HOME values with the home path name
of your user in which the the init.ora file exists.

I have the following questions:

1) What is an oracle_SID name
2) What is USER_HOME values and where is the home path name supposed to be?
3) Waht is the init.ora file used for.

Thank you for asking what maybe simple questions, but I cannot find easy answers
any way.

Thank You in advance for any help

Thanks

Shiru
