Archiving problem

Hi,

First, I must admit that I am not an experienced DBA, and learning "by the seat of my pants".

Normally, my database (7.3.4) creates a new archived redo log about every 20 minutes.

Yesterday, I ran a report that populates a temporary table with a large amount of data (I only need this table for the report). Well, I was told that the size of the rollback segment was exceeded. To fix this problem, I truncated the table. Everything went back to normal, or so I thought.

Well, not really. From that time on, instead of creating a new archxxxx.dbf file every 20 minutes, it went on doing it every 90 seconds! In less the 24 hours, there was no more space left on the disk.

I am now performing an emergency backup procedure which, after backing up, will delete all the archived files.

The question still remains - why the frequency of creating a redo log (and consequently a new arch. file) has changed so drastically, and do I expect this to continue?
