Before you ask for more hardware may I suggest you take a close look at what your
users are doing. Many times the SQL is poorly implemented. Other times the database is quite
fast but the application they have wrapped around it is less than optimal. If they complain to you about
performance you have to find out what they are doing. If they are running an application that they have
bought from a vendor and they have no clue what it is doing then you have to pull the SQL being executed from the
V$ tables and look at the cpu hits for the application compared to the databbase. Sometimes the application churns inefficiently while the database is virtually idling.

    If on the other hand all of the above are ok then its either cpu, disk or memory that is the bottleneck.
