Oracle 8 uses Net8 and not SQL*Net 2, but yes it's possible.
We're a NT shop, so I wouldn't know about a solaris box, but I tried
installing both a SQLNet listener and a NET8 listener on the same box
and the same instance, and I didn't have any problems.
Someone at Oracle told me that if I'm using Oracle8, the listener should
be
the one from NET8, but I tried the one from SQL*Net anyway. Your client
doesn't make any difference (7 or 8).
