Depends on the approach you're taking. Is it a clustered system that can take advantage of Oracle Parallel Server (OPS)? Then the best place to start is with the OPS Manual. Or are you relying on something at the OS level? If that's the case, you need to talk to the OS people. For a backup server, are you implementing standby database?

It's a bit difficult to be more specific without knowing the approach you're taking, but if this is the first time you've done it, I'd make sure I talked to someone experienced if I was in your shoes.
