Thanks for the responses.
I tried this, but no go, I get:
--------<snip>----
SQL*Plus: Release 8.0.3.0.0 - Production on Thu Jan 28 14:10:54 1999
(c) Copyright 1997 Oracle Corporation. All rights reserved.
ERROR:
ORA-12154: TNS:could not resolve service name
--------<snip>----
I tried both "sqplus user/pass_at_gl" and "sqlplus user/pass_at_GL". Same error with both.
The listener is definitely running. "lsnrctl stat" returns:
--------<snip>-------
LSNRCTL for SVR4: Version 8.0.3.0.0 - Production on 28-JAN-99 14:07:51

The password I'm using is good, because I can log in to sqlplus if it's just run locally on the server machine.
Any other ideas?? It looks like things should be working, but they're not...
