Just out of curiosity........

At what point can you do a backup to trace for the controlfile? Does the database have to be open or can it be done at nomount or mount? If so, couldn't you do a startup nomount (or mount) then do the backup. That way you'd have a text trace file that had the locations of all the dtabase files and the correct syntax?

OR, if that won't work, isn't the syntax the same for all these trace files. If I post the one I have, wouldn't he just need to put in the list of HIS actual files and then run the trace file to get a new control file? Received on Fri Jan 15 1999 - 20:23:19 CST
