Pro*Cobol precompiler

Has anyone out there in ORACLE 7.3.2 (VMS 7.1 - DEC Alpha) land had problems with the Pro*COBOL
precompiler v1.8.
We've just recently upgraded from 7.1.? to 7.3.2 and as a result the precompiler has gone from 1.6 -> 1.8
Using the 1.6 version a specific precompile would take 4-5 minutes but now it can take between 12 - 40 minutes and the disk the oracle instance is on gets hammered !

Any ideas / solutions ?
