You may be thinking of the comments floating around for Oracle 8.1 that blocks will no longer be pinged down to disc when consistency is required, instead the entire block will be passed across the high-speed interlink.

This won't address the problem of non-pcm locks, of course, so there will still be some traps to watch out for.
