Home -> Community -> Usenet -> c.d.o.server -> Excel 97 to Oracle 7.3.4 via ODBC problems
Hello Fellow Oracle users
I am trying to get Excel to talk to Oracle with NO LUCK. Versions:
excel 97
oracle 7.3.4 (on UNIX Server)
odbc drive for oracle 7.3 version 2.5 (downloaded from technet today)
I am able to install the ODBC driver. At least it shows up in the ODBC 32-bit admin driver list and allows me to create a data source for it.
However, in Excel, I select Data--> External Source --> New Query the previously created data source does not appear. Instead there are five Excel default data sources and one that says <new source>.
If I try and add a <new data source> from within Excel, it allows me to create a name, select the Oracle driver and then press <connect> button. A login pop-up appears. I enter userid, password and connect string (identified in tnsnames.ora on same machine).
I then get an ORA-1017 Invalid username / password logon denied error and then the Excel data source is not created.
What am I doing wrong? Am I using the wrong drivers? Please help
