Multiple databases from single install

I need to install 4-5 small databases. Each is for a seperate database class and schemas won't work. My question is can I do this without installing 4-5 seperate copies of Oracle? I've tried editing the scripts in the admin folder, which ran okay and created another set of the database files but I wasn't able to mount the database. If this is possible I must be missing a step. Looked everywhere and can't find anything about this. Would appreciate any input.
