Have you looked at the R.Kimball and the W.H. Inmon dw books? They are not math based, but you should get a good feel of the design issues from them from which you could derive a model.

One thing to hold on to is that no two dw are the same, and real-world complexities jump up (and tecnological change) to make even much of the Kimball and Inmon books wrong.
