Oracle state you should *not* analyze the SYS and SYSTEM schemas. Are you sure someone hasn't installed their own stuff (or a bought in package) in there?

I should imagine Oracle built the SYS data dictionary with RBO, no CBO in mind, as the the CBO is relatively new in comaprison. Hence the CBO might throw it out of tune. I'm guessing here, but it seems reasonable. And if Oracle say don't do it, then don't do it. And I run 1TB of Oracle databases on Oracle 7 & 8 without any problems, having never analyzed SYS or SYSTEM.
