Trying to Recover a bad Crash

I've been brought in to try and recover an Oracle Database after a bad HD crash. Unfortunatley they did not have a good backup procedure in place. I have all the datafiles for the tablespaces and system tablespace, and for the rollback segment, that's it.
Is there any way to recover this database. I was thinking 'Create ControlFile' may be the solution. I tried this but Oracle wants me to folow up with a recover operation which in turn doesn't recover the database. If anybody knows the way please let me know.
