Control files in Oracle 8

Hi all,
I have another Oracle 8 server running on the Linux platform. I am having trouble mounting the database. At the end of the startup pfile= process, it give me the following error message:

ORA-00205 Error in identifying controlfile, check alert log for more info. In the alert log file:

ORA-00205 Controlfile: 'ora_control1' ORA-27037 unable to obtain file status.

Linux Error: No such file or directory.

In the init<SID>.ora file, I have identified two control files as default name and there are no such control file created in any where. User ID oracle own the entire directory structure. Permission shouldn't be an issue. These control files are identified in the default location as the init.ora specified.
