There is probably an element of truth in this though. I have built a carefully matched pair of databases on similar sized NT and (small) HP-UX boxes, and compared the resource cost for identical database engine activities.

The HP-UX box used about one-third of the resources of the NT to do the same work. Then again I put together the NT kit for about one-third of the price of the HP.

At a small enough scale it doesn't necessarily matter that NT is a hog.
