NEW DATABASE TOOL SPEEDS UP TESTING AND MIGRATION TORONTO, ONTARIO, Nov. 24, 1998 -- Developers and I.T. professionals responsible for setting up databases now have a new tool that allows them to test, migrate, convert and transform a database quickly and at low cost. The new application is PumpItUp(R) 3.0, released today by The Client Server Factory, a Toronto-based database development and service firm.
PumpItUp 3.0 is the first commercial release of the product, which was previously in development and beta-testing. PumpItUp is capable of quickly generating any quantity of randomized or uniformly distributed test data. Test data is necessary for checking a new database for integrity, setting up demonstrations and programmer tests, or evaluating hardware, applications and database products for performance with large volumes of data. Besides testing, PumpItUp 3.0 serves as a migration and data cleansing tool for moving data from one database to another. It also includes Y2K conversion features.
The Client Server Factory originally developed PumpItUp as a tool for the company's own clients' projects. According to Doug Goddard, the company's president, PumpItUp 3.0 is the only product on the market "that generates and migrates data at the same time. At present there are other data generation and migration tools out there, but none combining both functions in one package."
Combining the two features in one product makes sense, says Goddard, since "most people are moving from mainframe to relational databases, which involves a combination of migration and generation. It's all taking place as you're moving data from the old to the new."
PumpItUp 3.0 is available directly from The Client Server Factory. To order the product, customers can call the company at 416.581.1084 or download an order form from their Web site at < http://www.tcsf.com >. Price for the product is US $499.
The Client Server Factory (http://www.tcsf.com) is located in Toronto. The company develops database and Web site solutions. Received on Wed Nov 25 1998 - 07:43:12 CST
