Error when starting pmon on Oracle for linux

After issueing the startup command in svrmgrl, I get the following error:



ORA-00443: background process "PMON" did not start
ORA-09922: Can't spawn process - background log directory not created
properly


Linux Error: 22: Invalid argument



Any help would be appreciated.
