Cursors remaining open

I am executing a stored procedure that uses an explicit cursor.  Even after
closing the cursor, their is still an entry in v$open_cursors for that
cursor.  Running this stored procedure several times eventually gets the
error of "max open cursors exceeded".  



Does anyone have an idea on how to get Oracle to "clean up" these open
cursors.
