Hi,

As I see your requirement
I would suggest the following (based on my experience)

Before I could list out the configuration details, I would like you find out (or ask yourself) few questions

  1. At what rate would the database size grow,
  2. DO you expect the increase in the number of users using the database.
  3. Is it likely, at your site, more applications would be added on this server as you go production on this server.
  4. Do you plan to go Client/Server way or 3 tire Architecture or plain server based.

Based on the answer you can modify the following config which I suggest for your current need of 30 users of 6GB database

I am suggesting SUN SPARC cause all my life I hv worked ON solaris (about 9 yrs)

1.Single CPU 250MHz (any of the model in the ULTRA range you can choose). Normally 1MB of cache should be good enough . If you go for dual CPU it should be automatically 2MB

2. 256MG of Main memory.

3. 8GB of diskspace. Go for Ultrawide SCSI III disks. Though single 8GB disk could be available, I still would suggest 4 disks of 2GB for better I/O performance.

2GB for OS, SWAP, and oracle apps, your apps 6GB for Database.

4. If you are planning to use C/S or 2 tire config go for 100Mbps network or better

Alternate configuration could be

PII @450MHz single CPU (or DUAL CPU) with NT4 256MB of RAM
8GB disk space

Wish You all the luck

Anand
