Net8 and OS Authentication

We have a fair number of applications that connect to the database with a generic user id and we'd like to avoid using a password. In combination with this, we'd like the flexibility of using the TWO_TASK environment variable and the TNSNAMES.ORA configuration file. This allows us the flexibility to "point" applications at different instances on the fly. Unfortunately, this involves Net8 and I can't figure out how to get OS authentication to work. The only way OS authentication seems to work (without using REMOTE_OS_AUTHENT - out of the question!) is via local or trusted host connection. What I'd like to do is have a program connect to an Oracle instance on another machine via a Net8 alias, without supplying a password. Anybody have any ideas?

Oracle 8.0.4
Solaris 2.6
