Volume is not an inherent limitation for Oracle replication. The limitation will be transactions per second. Oracle provides no timeliness guarantee for its replication facility. If you have to replicate hot tables, e.g. > 50 transactions per second for the greater part of every twenty four hour period, then replication just won't keep up - doesn't matter how many CPUs, fibre EMCs, or network bandwidth that you throw at it.
There are a lot of options when it comes to replicating databases, everything from 2PC, through home brew hot backup with remote restore, through to EMC's SRDF (provides point in time snapshot). You will need to do some serious evaluation of your needs and make sure that you have the appropriate tools for the job at hand. Look at your real requirements and then see what fits. Don't look at the products and change your requirements to fit them.
