We do run under NT, but when we converted our 2K block Oracle db under VMS
to 4k there was a definite, noticeable improvement. In general larger
blocksizes will result in performance gains for sequential processes like
imp, exp, and full table scans. Most random I/O is generally unaffected by
the change though index range scans improve due to their being more data in
each leaf block.
About a year ago my partner along with an Oracle consultant installed Oracle on NT and he told me that on NT the largest Oracle block size was 4K. This may have changed, but you may want to check on this. Otherwise many Warehousing experts recommend using the larger blocksizes like 16k and 32k which Oracle supports on some platforms.
