I was successful, however, I did receive a warning when running sqlplus that it was not happy residing on WIN98, due to changes in the api's for displaying data.

Try surface scan and a defrag...

To uninstall, use the oracle installer, remove all (it will leave the installer program) delete the directory, and any files left. Finally, run regedit - under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE highlight 'ORACLE' press delete yes, and close regedit.
Reboot, and you are ready for a re-install.
