Thanks to all who gave me what I needed to drop my database created by the Oracle 8 install process. I have done that and was able to create the database again and create all tables, permissions, users, etc. Now I shutdown the database copied the initDBNAME_0.ora to initDBNAME.ora reenabled the /etc/oratab file entry and dbstart (or svrmgrl->startup..) the database but when I try to connect as anyuser other than internal I get database is starting up/shutting down. I get the same message as internal as soon as I try to query the database. What did I forget?

Please also email a reply.
