ORA-03113: end-of-file on communication channel

I've started a long running job (stored procedure) in a Oracle Forms 5.0 Application.
It takes about 2 to insert 400,000 rows into an Oracle8 Database (Rel. 8.0.3) on an
HP-UX Server.
The form is waiting for the results of the background job. The job inserts a lot of rows and then got the following Oracle error messages:

ORA-00600: internal error code, arguments: [17280], [2], [3431552592], [], [], [], [], []
ORA-03113: end-of-file on communication channel

Is it possible, that SQL*Net (or Net8) terminates an Oracle session with no interaction
with the database for more than 2 or 4 hours?
