Note that the performance variance varies with filesystem (which can vary with vendor). The general consensus is the performance increase is much less than 20-30% with a modern unix and a complicated real world system. YMMV. The only way to tell is to test both ways, properly. To test properly is very time and resource intensive. Of course, some configurations require raw.
