Hi all...

Has anyone had experience using Alexandria from Spectra Logic? How about Legato's Oracle backup system? Both seem to use EBU, which I've also never used. From the reading I've done, neither seem to do table based backup/recovery. Are there any that do? As far as I can tell, Oracle doesn't support anything like that, and basically these packages are just modules which connect to that companies backup engine, and when Oracle is running in archive-log mode, they tell it tablespace by tablespace to go into and out of backup mode, then they backup that file. A similar thing happens for redo-logs, which would have to be mirrored.

Can anyone shed any light on this? I'm curious of anyone's experience with these packages. Do they lighten the burden of maintenance versus using scripts? For instance do they delete old archived redo logs after backing them up? If they don't support table-by-table backup, are exports used to suppliment this backup scheme?

TIA,
