I'm a Unix person now working with Oracle on NT. So I'm learning this, too. I think that you
should have 2 entries in the Services for each database: 1 is for the "service"
and one is for the instance. The entry for the database is the one that stops and starts
it automatically, I believe. There's a really good book out there, something about
managing Oracle 8 by people from oracle. it has a section on installing and managing
oracle v.7 and 8 on NT, the pros and cons, etc. If you'd like I can find the name of it for you.
if you go through the Nt instance manager to create the 2nd instance i believe that it
sets up all of the entries in the service for you. Sorry I don't have more information.
Maybe someone else will be more exact.
