Anyone have auto failover to disaster recovery site?

I need to auto-failover users from one Oracle8 instance to a different Oracle8 instance 40 miles away across a 16megabit token ring. If the database goes down for whatever reason on the primary server, I need users to automatically start using the secondary server, with no interuption. Someone out there HAS to be doing this today.

How do you get the clients to start using the new instance automatically? What tools do you use to automate this?

We have figured out one way to do this, but I want to find out how it's done at some other companies. E:mail replies (in addition to replies to this newsgroup) would be helpful, but not required.
