I've used the GNU 2.7.2 and 2.8.0 C compilers to successfully install 7.3.3,
7.3.4, and 8.0.4 on Solaris 2.6 x86.  You must have a C compiler to initially
install 7.3.x as two SQL*Net .c files that define your network configuration
must be compiled and linked into the Oracle kernel. The C compiler must reside in /usr/ccs/bin for this to work.
