Problem setting the "default" oracle SID...

I have installed Oracle Server 7.3 on a server machine. There it works fine. I have installed a Client component of the installation on another machine. Every time I run any of the tools I need to specify what database alias I will be connecting to.

How do I make my client machine always connect to the "default" database which I have setup on my server (the same way it works on the server). I have searched for some sort of a default flag in the configurations, but I am unable to find it.

Since I have only one database (the one which was installed by default) I want to have my client automatically connect to that database when the service field is left blank in most of Oracle applications.

Thanks.
