G'Day people,

I have a very simple problem that I just can't seem to get around.

I have an Oracle 8.03 server running on NT4. It all works as expected, except for one problem: the only way I can shut the instance down is to shut down the actual machine.

When I log into the Instance Manager as system, the shutdown options are grayed out. I have given system all roles and all priv's too, but just can't seem to work this one out.

The problem came to light while trying to set the Max Processes setting in the INIT settings tab, which requires a DB restart, but not having the priv's, I'm hosed.

If anyone can provide that shining ray of guidance, I would be gratefull.
