Such a tool would be nice wouldn't it. Microsoft provides one for SQL-Server.

The forumala you're looking for, for btree indexes at least, is in the Server Administrator's Guide. If you've got the HTML version of this, it's the last thing there. If you've got the Adobe version, it's in one of the appendixes... "A" I think.
