Client Side NLS Settings, How do I do it

Hi,
I have a unix database that we have changed the NLS_DATE_FORMAT in the initxxxx.ora. When we are on the unix box doing sqlplus, forms etc the NLS_DATE_FORMAT appears the way we would like but when I go in from an NT or Win95 machine, say in SQLPLUS the nls date format reverts to the DD-MON-YY standard/default. I have seen people mention that it also needs to be set on the client but I'd like to know what the best way to do this is.

Thanks in advance for any replies.

Keep your stick on the ice!
