Rollback segment usage - has it changed?

I have recently converted from v7.1.6 to v7.3.3 on HP/UX. One of several undesirable side effects seems to be that rollback segments are reused sooner under v7.3 than was the case under v7.1.

Can anyone confirm/deny this theory?

My reason for thinking this is that we have a batch program that runs by itself each night that has started getting a "Snapshot too old" error since the conversion to v7.3. I did find in the code where the program is updating and commiting rows from a table that is being read from in a driving cursor which is not being closed and reopened after each commit. But, why would this not have bitten us under v7.1 ??

My theory is that v7.1 must have progressed foreward through the rollback segments before wrapping around and reusing the commited blocks, whereas v7.3 is immediately reusing segments that become available as a result of the commit.

If this is true, does anyone know why the change was made? Received on Thu Feb 05 1998 - 00:00:00 CST
