From: Sys Admin Subject: SQL*Net through a Firewall Date: 1998/02/02 Message-ID: <34D55376.A5F@vdoj.vic.gov.au>#1/1 Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii Organization: Customer of Access One Pty Ltd, Melbourne, Australia Mime-Version: 1.0 Newsgroups: comp.databases.oracle.server We have a requirement to replicate a database through a firewall. I am assuming that if we can use DB_LINKS using SQL*Net through the firewall then Replication will also work (?). However, when we tested a SQL*Net connection through a firewall our comms guy said it spawned a lot of child processes which he was not happy with (they seemed to be within a large range which he said would be difficult to allow for). Has anyone done this successfully? The only documentation I have is an Oracle Whitepaper dated 1995 and Oracle Support said this is the latest one, which is surprising. Does anyone know of any decent up-to-date documentation on this? I suspect it is quite a common request these days. Thanks in Advance, Andy Horne
