Not too stupid; at least I had the same question. \Here is how it has been explained to me:

Oracle8 versus Oracle8 Enterprise Edition To clarify the differences between Oracle 8 Server and Oracle8 Enterprise Edition, please refer to the product matrix and description available on Oracle’s Web site at
http://www.oracle.com/st/products/uds/oracle8/html/oracle8.html and click on Product Features and Options Matrix. The following four points highlight the major differences:
1. Oracle8 includes Oracle Enterprise Manager which consists of next-generation systems management tools designed to efficiently manage the complete Oracle environment, including systems, databases, networks, and applications. If the client requires tools to perform advanced diagnostics, monitoring and tuning, the client will need to upgrade to the Oracle8 Enterprise Edition and order the Enterprise Manager Performance Pack option.

2. Oracle8 provides state of the art server managed back up and recovery utilities. If the customer requires incremental back up and/or parallel backup and recovery features, the customer will need to upgrade to Oracle8 Enterprise.

3. Oracle8 is a very fast and efficient database. If the customer requires additional parallel capabilities that are often used in data warehousing and very large database environments, the customer will need to upgrade to the Oracle8 Enterprise Edition. These features would be especially beneficial when using Oracle’s and other third party query and reporting tools, like Oracle Discoverer.

4. Oracle8 provides basic replication capabilities. If the customer requires advanced replication capabilities, the customer will need to upgrade to Oracle8 Enterprise Edition.

For additional information on Oracle8, refer to http://www.oracle.com/st/products/uds/oracle8/html/oracle8.html.
