The Rdb database I referred to in an earlier post used multiple standby databases continuously updated. Since most of the transactional records were stuff like $3 pay-per-view, if they lost a couple of records being transmitted during a huge catastrophe, that would be the least of their problems! But they paid their money, and got "almost instantaneous" switch over.
