Yes, that's exactly what has happened, and I consider that to be a pretty dangerous default behaviour of the exp/imp tools. Nonetheless: thanks to everybody who responded. Luckily enough, the next day came and just as I was getting on that chair, our part time DBA (I'm an OO eng. usually only messing with my own, private toy tablespace) told me that just two days ago he had switched from weekly to daily backups and we could just roll back the whole thing, like some of you recommended. We actually managed to repair some damage that we wanted to undo anyway, so we slapped two flys at once. phew ;)
Lessons learned:
- Backup early, backup often
- Trust No One, especially not the default behaviour of Oracle tools.
I guess my respect for large scale data warehouse DBAs just went up. :)
