HELP - Connection Problems

I have the following set up:

serverA: oracle 7.1.6 is installed. The TNS Listener appears to be running: lsnrctl status doesn't
report any errors, and I am able to connect with sqlplus via. TNS loopback.

The listener is listening on port 1526, and the port has been opened up so that it is accessible from
outside the firewall.

clientB: lives outside the firewall, but the hosts file is set up so that I can ping serverA from clientB.
I installed sqlnet, sqlplus, and the TCP adapters on this machine. I set up the tnsnames.ora file, and
am able to successfully tnsping the database on serverA. However, when I try to connect with sqlplus, it
hangs for a few minutes and then returns a 'could not connect' error.

Please let me know if you have an idea of what might be going wrong.

thanks,
