The MBT's are pretty good, if a bit lightweight in some peoples' opinions. I think they are good to have around as a review after taking the courses. I know I would have had a much easier time if I had had more training, but then again, I take training pretty seriously and tend to get a lot out of it. There's a lot to know about Oracle.
I've seen over and over again companies make the mistake of trying to scrimp in their Oracle DBA training. The DBA is a critical resource, and it is penny-wise, pound-foolish to scrimp on this resource. Oracle7 is very manual labor intensive (as compared to, say, Oracle Rdb), and although the situation is improving, the product is becoming more complex even faster.
Unless you have a very simple database, be sure you have access to an experienced DBA.
