We run 3 - 7-disk RAID5 raidsets, plus a number of mirrored disks. 
OpenVMS 6.2, ORACLE7 V71523.  RAID5 works fine for reads, less so (but
not unbearably so in our system) for writes.  Performance depends on
your application mix, controllers, etc.
