Oracle 7.3.2.2 HPUX Installation: Domain?

We have had difficulty getting SQL*NET up after installation of Oracle 7.3.2.2 on HPUX 10.20. Finally we have a listener...but the previously working SQL*Plus does not recognize that the database is up (even though all its processes are alive).

I suspect the problem goes back to the domain of the database which we were prompted for on installation of Oracle 7. At that time we entered
'test'...however all our SQL*NET configuration files now use a domain of
'world' (which seems strange in a world of TCP/IP).

What is a domain in Oracle?

Is there an exhaustive list of the places we need to change 'test' to
'world' so as to undo the diversity of domain names?

Hopefully,
