I think what the original poster (Eli The Bearded?) meant was that most of the people in the purchasing seat (ie the guys who control the budget allocations) have zero technical skills, and therefore fall for M$'s sales pitch. To the uninitiated, it looks pretty so it must be good. The sad reality is that M$'s offerings are complete crap on a technical level, way behind the state of the art. Of course, by the time Joe Clueless-Manager realizes this, it's too late.
It's funny, in a few years time, I bet these same managers will be bitching about how locked into M$ they are (in a similar way to the way people bitched about being locked into IBM a few years/decades ago). The situation will entirely be their own fault.
Stick with UNIX: it's stable, it's scalable, it's multiplatform, it's open, and it's here now.
