I thought I would mention one more thing:

You need to install the rs500d patch first. If you try to install the buffering patch it will complain that you are not at 5.0d and will not let you procede until you install the rs patch first.

If you look through the install.log you will probably see that it was linking when it started to hang. I just do not see how you would have expected Oracle to debug this for you. You has the installer or the user of the system need to determine the cause and route the problem appropriately. Oracle is not on your system nor is SCO. You are the eyes of the tech support people. Provide them with the needed info and your problem will be expodited quicker. This bug is such that when I was installing on multiple boxes all with the same verision of the OS and hardware some would hang and others would not. I ran into the problem installing 7.2.2.3 not Workgroup Sever. But later ran into it installing Workgroup Server 7.1.5 on a SCO 5.0 box. When I hit the problem the first time I called SCO not Oracle and asked why a relink would hang and got pushed around for a while. I finally got the answer almost a week after I ran into the problem (if I remember correctly). They said that it had to do with low I/O buffering and pined memory not being released. At the time it was a different patch. I think it was something like OSS415A or something like that. When I tried to install WGS I could not find the OSS415A patch after the machine hung and found on the web site that it had been replaced wiith the new patch. When I tried to istall it complained I was not at 5.0d so I got that patch. After this everything worked.

I admit that Oracle installs can be probmatic especially Workgroup Sever but you are the best at tool at resolving the issues as you are the person who has access to the hardware.

Let me know if these patches do not resolve the hanging. Although I am pretty sure they will. Received on Sun Apr 13 1997 - 00:00:00 CDT
