Pinning Applications

Hi,

I am working with an Oracle 7.1.6 release on Sequent - and currently we employ a practice of "pinning" PL/SQL packages into the SGA.

This is in effect reserving an area of the SGA and loading the code into that area.

Can anyone tell me more about pinning ? - what are the pros and cons of pinning. Also - what is the effect of not pinning as opposed to pinning.
