dba housekeeping rules

hi ,

I have a chance to set in place a file layout and a set of rules for the dba role. It is currently a mess. I know enough to put a good method together but lack the experience of the years so I'm sure I'll miss a few good principles.

The idea is to take the personality out of the dba role so I do not have files like joe34.exp in /home78/joe/data/ or /oracle.

If i get a comprehensive solution out of the thread then I promise a summary posting.
